Sorry if this topic has been previously covered, I searched the forum and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Here is the situation:

Replaced a 20 y/o whirlpool natural gas 40 gallon hot water heater with a brand new whirlpool 40 gallon gas hot water heater purchased from Lowes. The old water heater served my family of 5 for 20 years with minimal issues regarding hot water supply.

The new hot water heater runs out of hot water after running the bath tub spigot for a little over 7 minutes. Water temp was 140° to start. It won't even fill the tub with warm water. No error codes indicated on the hot water tank control unit. Flashes once every 3 seconds or so. I installed the new unit and I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing so I'm confident it's installed properly. I confirmed the hot/cold supply lines are not reversed.

A few more specifics:

New unit - whirlpool model number N40S61-403
Product number 0733316

I don't have the equipment to test water pressure in the house but it's relatively high.
Approximately 4 gallons per minute at the tub spigot.

My thoughts are that I'm using the hot water faster than the tank can reheat the incoming supply. But why is this a problem now and it wasn't before? Am I missing something? Will a pressure reducing valve solve my problem (there isn't one installed now)? Or is there possibly a manufacturers defect of some sort? The whirlpool help line was little to no help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
