Hi Guys,
We have recently bought 1960's house which needs some work doing to it.
The pipes seem to be lagged in a brown hairy insulation (see pic - sorry quality isn't that good).
Does this contain asbestos?
Also,
The survey said that our cold water pipes would need better insulating but...

Hi,

Just been contacted by the company I did my asbestos awareness course with last year inviting me to retake so I phoned em up to ask what had changed since last year. Has a new strain been discovered? No. has the reporting system changed? No. Is there a new method for dealing with it when you...
Until now I have been guided by John Addison's paper: "VERMICULITE IS NOT ASBESTOS" Addison-Lynch, Edingburgh February 1994.
Today I encountered a case where Surveyor refused to enter loft space until Vermiculite tested.
If HSE guidance has been changed could someone update me.
If test now...
Before I say anything else, I want to make it clear I do not hold an asbestos qualification and I refuse to touch the stuff professionally.
However, my father said he'd pay for me to buy the vacuum cleaner as I need to take up some old asbestos Marley tiles and probably remove some Artex (I've...
My daughter's just moved into her first house. She has an asbestos soil stack which runs through the house rather than up the outside of the building. I have uncovered the ground floor section as it was boxed in and found that the lower four feet is encased in concrete/cement. Is there a reason...

Hi,
My shower was leaking and it caused a small hole to appear in my kitchen ceiling. I had a go at fixing it - poorly! I filled it with poly filler, sanded and painted.

Hi,
All the pipes in my loft have the foam insulation, except one that is lagged in something else. Is it asbestos? If not, what is it?
Many thanks, Russ
I have never done any work on an appliance with an asbestos flue. I know very little about them. Just recently we've been going to an estate where we've come across asbestos flues which are still in use for the gas fire.
Now I went to one today and it had been classified as ID. The only...
I'm quoting to replace a 40 year old Wilson boiler. As far as I'm aware it has asbestos insulation on the lid - can someone please confirm?
If it is the case how do I remove it safely and then get rid of it.
Hi guys I've got a job coming up for a boiler swap and the old glowworm has an external vertical asbestos flue about 4 m long

I recently called a local gas engineer to service my warm air heating and issue a new gas safety certificate.
One of the engineers put a smoke pellet into the heating system and looked into the loft.
He came down saying there was some smoke escaping into the loft from the flue somewhere in...
