Discuss Capping a redundant gas cooker supply in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi, I’m having a gas cooker pipe capped off. The GS registered plumber/ fitter, has told me that to do this, he’ll also have to service the combi boiler and check the radiators. (combi boiler was serviced in January by the original installer) Before retiring I was a joiner and honestly in the building trade, I’ve never heard of any plumber saying he’s got to service a boiler after capping off a redundant cooker supply. Nor can I see the need to “check the radiators” ( absolutely not on the gas side of things)
Do you think he’s trying it on ? The quote is roughly £100 to cap a 15mm pipe off btw.
Thanks in advance
John

That's crap. There is a procedure for re-lighting gas appliances after he's capped the cooker supply but it's only visual

  • Flame picture (if applicable)
  • Location of the appliance
  • Flue is OK and suitable
  • Adequate ventilation
  • Signs of distress (heat damage or discolouration in surrounding area)
  • Stable and Secure (boiler isn't falling off the wall)

Realistically to do it properly, get tools out test and fill out paperwork you're looking just short of an hour.

He might call the 26.9 checks a service

If he's cautious, the plumber will want to test the boiler and heating are working properly before starting work so he doesn't get stiffed by a dodgy customer claiming that he was responsible for a pre-existing fault.
