Had my Hilmor benders for about 12 years now and they've just started creasing the 15mm pipe... Anyone know why this is? Can i fix it or do i need to buy new?

i had some copper pipe from last year left over 15mm , i needed another bundle of 15 mm all the new copper pipe ripples last years copper 15mm not a kink or a crease benders very rarley let you down its the cheap and nasty copper from china that is to blame i wont mention the well known suppliers, sometimes a little squirt of wd 40 on the pipe formers and guides works a treat hope this helps with your enquiry .

Thanks for the message mate. It's the first time in 15 years that i've had pipe crease though!! I remember a bloke i knew years ago had the same thing but he ended up buying new benders. Might try the WD 40 first and see if that does anything. Thanks again.

All the best.

Clean the bender parts with steel wool and cloth emery paper thoroughly & slight oiling. Be sure to do the sides of the groove in the wheel
Rain or just damp air will eventually cause a film of corrosion on surfaces - aluminium or iron.
Only other thing is copper pipe quality & I buy British copper only to avoid the really nasty stuff.
Remember coming across 28mm pipe from Europe that snapped in bender

I had it from screwfix, there copper was creasing in my benders so I've stopped using them.

Hilmours are the best! Generally using guides which arent meant for your specific bender will produce wrinkly pipe

Just cleaning the oxidised aluminium from the formers and guides, is normally enough. If that fails, try wd40. If that fails try different copper manufacturer. If that fails, buy new bender.

If that fails use an elbow! :devil2:

Or a knee [emoji1]

If after trying what the Guy's above recommend......as they are 12 year's old they could be worn try putting a piece of hacksaw blade between the roller and guide if this works they are obviously worn out change the roller and guide/former or maybe buy a new set.....regards Turnpin:wink:

Try a new former first the old one may be worn

I replaced my hilmors about 3 years ago and my wife bought me a cheap set off eBay to replace them. I never had the heart to tell her to take them back and exchange them. As it turns out they have been great, no creases or ripples on 22mm pipe. I do get ribbed though by other plumbers when they see them . All that matters to me is that they do the job intended though
